40 villages in Viti Levu are receiving compost fertilizer from the Ministry of Agriculture.

Secretary of State Ritesh Dass says the Bio Initiative will reduce the use of chemical fertilizers, improve soil health and carbon, improve soil biodiversity, and preserve agricultural land for long-term food security.

The compost fertilizer will preserve the soil and reduce pollution of rivers, streams and coastal areas.

Agricultural land will also be preserved for long-term food security.

Farmers are urged to practice sustainable agriculture and not to misuse chemical fertilizers.

This project is funded with $ 190,000.
