VIENNA W.Va. (WTAP) – The Olivia and Friends Childcare and Development Center will help the community through its Kids for Kids initiative.
Owner Samantha Byers says the initiative was started to raise money for playground equipment for the daycare center and to start a community garden.
They raised $ 4,160 through the initiative. Half of the money will go to the Child Care Department at WVU Medicine Camden Clark.
“The things they do at WVU Medicine Childrens Services are amazing,” explains Byers. “Personally, I have friends whose children had to stay here, even after the birth they had to stay longer than expected. They just do a lot of great things to make the kids comfortable and we wanted to be a part of them. “
Byers says that while she wanted to give back to the community, she also wanted to teach the children how to help others.
“I like to try to do things where the children can give back to the community and learn how to give and help others,” says Byers. “So we decided to turn it into some kind of initiative. We will continue to do things to help children and families in the church. This was our first kids-for-kids event. ”
The daycare center will present a check to the Child Care Department at WVU Medicine Camden Clark next week.
The daycare center will continue to report on the initiative on its Facebook page.
