Bhubaneswar: Three new Micro Composting Centers (MCCs) were inaugurated on Wednesday by local MLAs Susant Kumar Rout and Ananta Narayan Jena.
While Rout inaugurated an MCC in Gadakana, Jena started two MCCs in the area of Block 1. This increased the total number of operational MCCs in the capital to 23.
The MCC in Gadakana will serve Districts 9 and 11, while the MCCs in Unit 1 will meet the requirements of Districts 40 and 53, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.
The ‘Swachh Sathis’, Supplementary Commissioner Laxmikanta Sethi, Deputy Commissioner (Plumbing) Suvendu Kumar Sahoo, City Engineer Arun Kumar Nayak, Deputy Commissioner of the Purandar Zone Nanda ZDC (Southeast) Anshuman Rath and other plumbing workers attended the occasion.
“The BMC has provided vehicles, accessories, personnel and supervisory staff for the MCCs,” the company said.
“The new units have the capacity to process 5 tons of waste per day. As today, the South East Zone has 13 MCCs serving 18 stations, the North Zone has 5 MCCs serving 9 stations, and the South West Zone has 5 MCCs serving 9 stations, ”said a senior BMC official.
