A nursing home in Exeter has taken visiting to a new level, creating a special summer home for families and friends that can be used as a dedicated testing area before entering the home to visit loved ones.

The garden building at the front of the Old Rectory provides a quiet place for families to take their side-flow Covid-19 test and relax for half an hour while they wait for the results.

Manager Kerry Dempsey said, “The summer home is used for one visitor at a time to provide social distancing and is thoroughly cleaned between visitors.

“This area provides a more comfortable environment for relatives while they wait for their results to come back.”

She added that the home staff and residents had been looking forward to the further relaxation of the visiting rules starting April 12, when nursing home residents in England were allowed two regular visitors to the home.
