Segment 1, starting at 1:00 am: Kandace Buckner and Tanesha Ford explain why they wanted a seat on the board and what their goals are to improve the district.
Buckner and Ford commented on charter schools, how well Superintendent Mark Bedell is doing and the barriers holding back the district’s students. Kandace Buckner says she “would love if our district did a better job of enhancing family engagement. I think our families are a critical voice in our student outcomes.”
Segment 2, starting at 28:10 p.m .: Compost Collective KC and Missouri Organic Recycling offer options for handling your leftover food.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, food waste reached nearly 41 million tons in the U.S. in 2017, which takes up a lot of landfill space. On Earth Day this year, Stan Slaughter, Composting Educator of the Year and co-owner of Collective KC, is offering composting alternatives for your kitchen and table waste, including a roadside pick-up service.
