The Maryville Wastewater Treatment Plant is offering free compost to private individuals this Saturday to personal, July 31, announced the city in a press release.
Anyone can pick up material on a first come, first served basis from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm at 4541 Wheeler Road, Louisville.
Compost is an organic material made from wastewater solids called bio-solids – a by-product of wastewater treatment.
These waste materials are broken down by microorganisms, excess water is drained and the remaining solid is heated to remove pathogens. The biosolids are then mixed with wood chips in a composting process, resulting in a rich soil improvement product.
City employees can load compost shovels into vehicles or trailers, or fill sacks.
This compost can also be picked up on most Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. this summer
