Improve the shelf life of your food with just a few key elements.
It’s never too late to adopt a greener lifestyle, and one of the best ways to get started is with an overhaul of your kitchen. We humans produce an absurd amount of food waste every year. That is why we should all strive to consume, store and recycle our food in a more environmentally friendly and non-waste manner.
Here are some great (and green) kitchen products to help you change the way your kitchen works:
Single-use plastics need to be a thing of the past, and this is one of the first habits to let go of when starting an anti-waste kitchen. These non-toxic silicone storage bags are a great way to store sandwiches, products, mixes, and more. They’re also dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe, and can even be used for sous vide.
Composting is a staple of a green kitchen, and this minimalist compost bin should look great on your counter. Make good use of your leftover food instead of throwing it in the trash and bring out a nutrient-rich soil additive to demonstrate this. This is also dishwasher safe.
With a vacuum sealer you can extend the shelf life of your food and save space. This is currently available from Amazon. It’s super easy to use and results in airtight, sealed pouches that can be stored in the fridge or freezer (without freezer burn). You can also use them for sous vide.
If you are slow to consume your products and find that they always go bad before you can eat them, these FreshWorks containers are your new best friend. With this set of three you can care for fresh products for longer thanks to the included CrispTrays (which keep moisture away from the products) and the FreshVent lids (which regulate the flow of oxygen and carbon dioxide).
Make your bread last a little longer with this sweet bamboo bread box – it retains just enough moisture to prevent your bread from going moldy and stale quickly. It also has transparent windows so you can keep an eye on your bread’s performance throughout the week.
Instead of letting your herbs and vegetables deteriorate, use a dehydrator to turn them into crispy snacks and seasoning powders. This one has multiple trays and lots of space, plus many high-tech features that take the guesswork out of food dehydration.
